How did you get into the role? Tell us a little bit about your career history and what lead to you working at Woodhorn.
I started work as an Apprentice Bricklayer, after gaining a qualification I then worked for a couple of local builders undertaking general building and gaining additional construction skills.

After that I applied for an advert in the local paper for a position of Aviation Firefighter, this role involved aircraft handling in/out the hangers, refuelling of aircraft and general maintenance of the aerodrome. Over this period, I worked my way up to Senior Aerodrome Fire Officer assisting the Aerodrome Manager in the safe operation of the aerodrome and running the fire crew to meet with civil aviation authority legislation.

After 17 years in this role I needed a change in direction which led me to apply for a role of Site Operative at The Woodhorn Group, and the rest as they say, is history!

What do you do on a day to day basis? Can you give us an insight into a typical day in your role?
My day starts with hosting the morning team meeting to identify what tasks we need to complete that day, delegate the necessary tasks and identify/rectify any issues from the previous day. I assist the Area Site Operations Manager with the safe running of the site and ensure all areas are staffed and any health and safety issues are addressed, while making sure the site runs as efficiently and smoothly as possible.

The best bits and challenges. Be open and honest, what’s the best thing about your job, and what can be tough sometimes?
For me the most enjoyable thing was the complete change in direction from my previous role, learning new skills and working for a small/medium size company where the top man knows who you are and where you’ve come from.

Life outside of work – what are your interests and hobbies?
I try to keep fit with circuit training, walking, yoga and swimming. I enjoy visiting the cinema, holidays abroad, working on cars and vehicles, target shooting and spending time with my family.

What does your role entail?
I lead the sales team for The Woodhorn Group to promote and sell our wide range of contract services and consumer products. This includes our commercial waste management contracts, bulk orders for our certified topsoils and composts, our Earth Cycle consumer brand and also our milk vending. I’m involved in developing and launching new products and services as well as overseeing our marketing and stakeholder engagement.

How long have you worked here?
I’ve been with the Woodhorn Group since 2012 – so quite a while now!

What makes this such a special place to work?
The office is in quite a rural location but because I’m here there and everywhere I get to enjoy all our sites. I love being down on the farm with the cows but it’s just as fun spending some time with all the big machines at the composting sites because we’re making something truly organic that will go back into the ground.

When you're not working, what will we find you doing?
I really enjoy traveling and music. Whilst I particularly like Country music, I’m also a DJ and so my music collection encompasses everything. I’m big into my football too, having been a coach for the local youth team for as long as I can remember and I’m also a Southampton fan, so enjoy heading down to St Mary’s for a match when I can.

What does your role entail?
I manage the day-to-day running of the dairy at Reeds Farm making sure that all of our cows are milked, fed, happy and healthy.

How long have you worked here?
I joined in early July 2023, so am very new to the role and the team!

What makes this such a special place to work?
Joining The Woodhorn Group has been exciting, and it’s great to have the opportunity to be part of a progressive dairy farm that’s striving to be more sustainable every year. Working with this small and friendly team in such a lovely area of West Sussex is a bonus too.

When you're not working, what will we find you doing?
In my spare time I love a bit of rugby and cricket, and enjoy being out in the country with my two dogs too.

What does your role entail?
I was part of the project management team that launched the Woodhorn Farm milk vending project. Now that it’s up and running I support Graham with the day-to-day work such as milk processing at Reeds farm and keeping the Oving Cow Shed well stocked with delicious milk, produce, shakes & coffee.

How long have you worked here?
I have lived on the farm since 2008 when my husband Cameron came to work at Woodhorn, but only recently joined the team myself to help with the launch of the milk vending operation. So far, so good!

What makes this such a special place to work?
The agricultural sector can be a tough place to work sometimes as there are so many factors that can challenge you on a regular basis, but Woodhorn offers us so much in return – a beautiful & peaceful place to live & work. It’s only ten minutes away from the city centre but feels like a million miles away from the hustle & bustle, like a rural retreat. We also have a great team who support each other and some great banter that keeps us entertained.

When you're not working, what will we find you doing?
As a working mum, it may not surprise you to learn that when I’m not working I’m relaxing. That usually entails a spot of Pilates, a long walk with Andy, our black Labrador; and the occasional Gin and tonic!
